Edition: Professional, Business, Enterprise
User-level: All Users
Starting 13 April 2026, the new Global Search will be enabled in stages. Access will be available to all Synergy organisations by 30 April 2026.
An in‑app pop‑up will notify you once Global Search has been enabled for your organisation.
Global Search turns the search bar into your primary navigation tool in Synergy. Use it to jump to any record in a few keystrokes - projects, invoices, contacts, documents, emails, and staff. Search is designed to be forgiving of typos and variations, and returns results in a single dropdown with no separate search page.
Everything happens in a single, powerful dropdown - there is no separate Search page.
Access & Entry Points
The Global Search bar now lives on the left side of the top navigation, alongside other primary tools.
Users can:
Click into the search bar and start typing.
Press / (forward slash) from anywhere in Synergy to open it instantly.
When the search bar is focused but empty, you’ll see two sets of recent activity:
Recent Searches - your last 3 search queries. Click any to re-run it.
Recently Selected - your last 10 results, shown as full result cards.
Note: If you open a result in a new tab, it will not be captured in “Recently Selected”
What You Can Search
Global Search works across the following record types. Each has a tailored row layout to help you tell similar results apart at a glance.
Global Search supports searching across:
Object | Searchable fields |
Projects | Number, name, external name, site address, CRN, status, key contacts |
Invoices | Invoice number, linked project, contact, PO number, status, due date |
Contacts | Name, email, phone, organisation, job title |
Documents | Name, title, file extension, linked project, folder, uploaded by |
Emails | Subject, from/to, linked project, content snippet |
Staff | Name, job title, email |
Not available in this release: Reports, Bills, Purchase Orders, and files stored in external systems such as SharePoint are not included in search results. Document search covers titles, names, and metadata only, full file content is not indexed.
Would these additions or any others improve how you use find things in Synergy?

How search works
You can search directly by any known identifier or name. These searches are prioritised and will appear at the top of your results when matched:
Project numbers - e.g. PN-10432, P0456
Invoice numbers - e.g. INV-1023, INV1023
Client and contact names - e.g. Rufus Design Group, John Smith
CRNs and PO numbers - e.g. CRN 04934905, PO 12345
Email addresses and phone numbers
Fuzzy matching
Search is tolerant of minor spelling mistakes and punctuation differences. For example:
Kings will match King's
Jonh Smith will match John Smith
CRN and Client Reference Number are treated as equivalent
Natural language search
You can combine record types with context in a single query. For example:
invoices for project Henderson Fitout
documents for project PN-10432
overdue invoices
active projects in Sydney
Reading your results
All results appear in a single dropdown, there is no separate search page.
As you type, the dropdown shows up to 30 results. Matched terms are highlighted within each row. Scroll down to load more results as you go.
Results are ranked in this order:
Exact identifier matches - project number, invoice number, CRN, email address, etc.
Record type and relevance - projects, invoices, and contacts tend to rank higher for general queries
Recency - recently opened or modified records get a small boost
Semantic relevance - used when no exact match exists, to surface conceptually related results
Permissions always apply – users only see results they’re allowed to see
Keyboard shortcuts
You can operate the dropdown entirely from the keyboard:
Key | Action |
| Open the search bar |
| Move through results |
| Open the selected result |
| Close the dropdown |
As users scroll, more results are fetched and appended, up to the internal limits.
Limitations & Out of Scope (Release 1)
No Reports, Bills or Purchase Orders in search results yet
External document stores (SharePoint) are not indexed
Document search is limited to titles/names/metadata, not full file contents
Some advanced predictive/AI queries (e.g. “projects at risk of running late”) remain future enhancements and are not part of this release
