Update stage start and end dates on the schedule page

How to change stage start and end dates on the project schedule

Updated this week

Edition: Enterprise

User-level: Project manager and above

The start and end dates of any stage not marked as complete or unsuccessful can be adjusted on the schedule page of the project. There are two ways to adjust the start and end dates: Click-and-drag, or the date fields in the side panel.

Click-and-drag

Probably the simplest method. Using your cursor, you can click and drag stages left and right along the timeline.

To change just the start or end date of the stage, click and drag the front or end of the stage pill. When you move your cursor over the end of the stage, it will change to a double-ended arrow, indicating you can click and drag.

Side panel

Clicking on the stage pill will open up the right-hand side panel with further details, including the start and end date. From here you can edit the start and end date directly, selecting the dates from a calendar, and then apply the change.

After you select a date, it will ask you to choose a resource editing option, Change costs or Maintain costs:

Then click Save.

Resourcing

When changing the dates on a stage, it can impact the resourcing under that stage. When you adjust the dates for a stage when the project is in planning mode, Synergy will:

  • Adjust the project end date to reflect the new stage date

  • Adjust a parent phase to reflect the new stage date if the stage is under a phase

  • Adjust tasks within the stage to reflect the new stage date.

When you adjust the dates for a stage when the project is in delivery mode, Synergy will:

  • Adjust the parent phase to reflect the new stage date

  • Move tasks in line with the stage

For further details, see the Customised Resourcing article.

Tips!

If you try to move or extend a project or phase and a stage is marked as completed, nothing happens to the stage. This applies in both delivery and planning modes.
