Projects Resourcing

Learn about the Projects Resourcing Dashboard

Edition: Business + Insights Pro Add-on, Enterprise + Insights Pro Add-on
User-level: Permissions are set at an Organisation level by System Administrators
Who this is for: Project managers, principals, resource managers

Dashboard Explained

Planned versus actual resourcing by project, role and period. Projects Resourcing connects the resourcing plan with the actual hours charged, enabling PMs to monitor whether their project is running to plan or burning hours faster than expected.

New in Insights Pro: This dashboard did not exist in Analytics Plus.

How to use it

Review Projects Resourcing in PM meetings to confirm that charged hours are tracking to the resource plan. If actual hours are running consistently ahead of planned, the project is burning fee faster than expected — the PM should either update the resource plan or raise a fee variation. If planned hours show low coverage for upcoming periods, the project may be under-resourced and at risk of delivery delays.

Understanding your data

Key Fields

How it's Calculated

Planned Hours

Hours allocated to each staff member on each project stage in Total Synergy's resource plan, for the selected period

Actual Hours (Charged)

Chargeable hours recorded against the project stage via timesheets in the same period

Hours Variance

Actual hours minus planned hours. A positive number means more hours have been charged than planned — potential fee risk if the stage is capped

Planned Cost

Cost of the planned hours based on each staff member's cost rate applied to their allocated hours

Actual Cost

Cost of the actual charged hours based on staff cost rates

Cost Variance

Actual cost minus planned cost. Shows whether the project is costing more or less than the resource plan assumed

Resourcing Coverage

Planned hours expressed as a percentage of the estimated hours remaining on the stage — indicates whether the project is adequately resourced for the work ahead
