Use post-billing as an alternative to writing off WIP. This will not change your invoice value.
To assign WIP to a pre-existing invoice, the transaction status needs to be WIP.
There are 2 ways to perform post-billing
Method 1:
From the Transactions page:
Select 'WIP' from the view drop-down.
Select the WIP you want to transfer.
Click on the bulk menu drop-down and select 'Assign to invoice'.
This will take you to the pre-bill page, where you can see the invoice stages that have a pre-bill balance.
If you want to see all invoiced stages, slide the ‘Show all invoices’ toggle. This toggle switches between invoices with a pre-bill balance and all invoices.
Choose the invoice to assign your WIP.
There are three options you can select from.
Selected WIP – this includes all the WIP you selected
All WIP ($) – this includes all the WIP for this stage
WIP from – this is limited to a specific date range.
The only method available to you for a post-bill will automatically revalue your transactions for that stage.
When you do this, all your transactions will change value to match up to your invoice value.
The pre-bill balance remains $0 only for invoiced stages. The ones that have a pre-bill balance will also show the balance in the 'Show all invoices' screen as well
All types of rate types can be assigned to WIP.
Method 2: Pre-bill
You can also perform the post billing process via the pre-bill page directly
From the Project menu > Financials > Pre-bill.
Click the toggle to view all invoices
You can then assign the invoice to WIP by clicking the Assign WIP button.
This will open the pre-bill modal. There are two options you can select from:
All WIP ($) – this includes all the WIP for this stage
WIP from – this is limited to a specific date range.
The only method available to you for a pre-bill will automatically revalue your transactions for that stage.
